Hey there! Good to see you posting on our blog in my absence! Can you just make sure that you include a caption explaining what is going on. Remember the blog is to celebrate learning. Missing you all. Am off to physio appointment as my back is still very sore but will see you all on Wednesday. A huge thanks to Matua Matu for finalising our competitive and non-competitive swimmers in my absence! Ka kite!

Home Reading
This week you will begin taking reading books home from your group box. Parents please understand that the books your child brings home are meant to be shared with you and enjoyed together. Your child should be able to read these books but may need help with some words. The books they read with me at school are at what is called an 'instructional' level and are more challenging! About 15-20mins of listening to your child reading 3 or 4 times per week is enough! Enjoy!

Korero Maori Time
We joined up with Room 16 and Matua Matu to practise our te reo Maori today. We learned some simple actions to go with the words. We then tested our knowledge using a fun online quiz called Kahoot! What did you learn today?

My Cat
Sometimes, when my family is sleeping, we hear 'Bang! 'Pow' in the hall way. PUMPKIN!!! At the top of my voice I yell, "Mum, Dad!" They come out of their room and see Pumpkin with a bird in his mouth .He looks up with his devil eyes as if to say, "Don't even think about taking my toy away!" He starts attacking the helpless creature with his sharp, pointed teeth. I feel sad because there is a poor bird in my cat's mouth but at the same time I know that my cat is sharing something with me that he is proud of. It is like the first time I did a backwards walkover and I showed Mum. I was so happy and proud of myself. Pumpkin is just showing off his hunting skills. By Kaycee

Room 21's Post on Tuesday, 16 February 2016
Did you know that we are trying to cut back on the amount of rubbish our school is creating? At the moment we contribute 244 tonnes (that's about the weight of 244 elephants!) of rubbish per year to the landfill. That rubbish doesn't include the paper and cardboard that we recycle! Most of this rubbish is brought to school in our children's lunch boxes. At school we are discussing ways we can help with creating a rubbish free school. Talk to your child about what you can do to help, starting with their lunch box!

ZAHRA earns the first Crest Award for the year!
Congratulations to Zahra who is not only new to Room 21 but is brand new to our school. Zahra has settled in so quickly and has made new friends easily. It is great having you as part of our whanau.

Kia ora and welcome to our class blog! This site gives you the opportunity to keep up to date with what's going on in Room 21. You can add comments but please make sure these are positive. This is NOT a forum to discuss behavioural issues or to chat about things which are not related to learning! Please be aware that these comments can be seen by myself, other parents and the children themselves.
Thank you,
Mrs O'Neill
